Save money, water and energy.

From starting your day off right with a cuppa or cooking dinner for your family, we use lots of water in our kitchens every day. Making just a few small swaps to your daily routines to use a little less, can save you money on your water and energy.

Small swaps to save money, water and energy

  • Try washing your fruit and veggies in a bowl of fresh water, you’ll save 10 litres every minute.
  • If you have a dishwasher, save even more time, water and money - but make sure you’re a stacking pro and only put on a full load.
  • Remember not to pre-rinse dishes - instead, scrape any leftovers into the bin and let the dishwasher do the hard work.
  • Around 12% of our average energy bills are spent on heating water, so by using the eco setting or a lower temperature on your washing machine – you’ll save water and money.
  • Waiting for a full load before popping your washing on will save 10 litres per cycle, which quickly adds up!

Small swaps to keep cool in the heat

  • Fill a jug of water at night and pop it in the fridge. You’ll have chilled water for when you need it, and you won’t waste water while waiting for your tap to run cold.
  • Top up your ice cube tray in your freezer so you can chill drinks when you need to cool down quickly.
  • Fill your kettle before you head to bed so it’s ready for your morning cuppa and not using water at peak time.

Protect your pipes
Saving money doesn’t just mean using less water – protect your home from a costly plumbing bill too. The average household puts over a litre of fats, oil and grease down the sink every year. This is equivalent to 8 cups of tea sitting in your sewer pipes waiting to cause a potential blockage. Explore more ways to keep your pipes clear in the kitchen.

Have you spotted a drip?
A leaky tap can slip under the radar, especially if it’s going straight down the drain and isn’t making a puddle. They might seem harmless, but even a drip can waste money and thousands of litres of water a year — Find out if you have a sneaky leak with our handy video:
