If your bill is higher than you were expecting or we’ve been in touch about increasing your payments, we don’t want you to worry.

Any change to your bill or payments is based on a combination of factors.  Including changes in water and sewerage tariffs, your usage, and any adjustments for previous under or over- payments.  Here’s a bit more detail on what we do when we set your payments for the year. Firstly, we look at a few things:

Our rates: we review our prices each year and update them from 1 April.

  • Depending on when you get your bill will affect how many months are based on this year’s rates, and how many are based on next year’s.
  • Example: A bill from 1 October covers 12 months. October-March uses this year’s rates, April-September uses next year’s.
  • You can find out more about our charges and how they change here: A change in our water charges

Your water usage: we estimate how much water you’ll use over the year and apply the right rates. If you’ve used more (or less) than before, we adjust the estimate.

Your account balance:

  • If you were in credit (you’ve paid more than you’ve used), your payments will be lower because the credit helps cover some charges.
  • If you still owe money (because your payments haven’t covered what you’ve used), your payments will be higher to cover what’s owed plus next year’s charges.

So, your payments depend on:

  • Our rates and when they change
  • When your bill starts
  • How much water you use
  • Whether you have credit or an outstanding balance.
