Working with Scope to improve services for our disabled customers
We’re proud to work in partnership with Scope. Scope are the leading pan-disability equality charity in the UK.
Scope’s Utilities Membership
We became the first water company to join Scope’s Utilities Membership (SUM) in 2020. We work with other utility companies, to find ways that we can support our disabled customers.
For many disabled people, utilities are an extra financial pressure. This might be due to extra washing, heating, or charging electrical medical equipment.
This is in addition to the many extra costs of being disabled. Scope’s research found that disabled households need an additional £975 a month to have the same standard of living as non-disabled households.
This is why we’re working with Scope to better support our disabled customers.
Since 2019 we’ve had many achievements through the SUM partnership. These include:
Disability Energy Support with Water Advice Service (DES)
We became co-funders of Scope’s Disability Energy Support with Water Advice Service in 2021.
This service provides support to disabled people and their families including:
Scope’s Disability Energy Support with Water Advice Service is needed now more than ever, given the cost of civing crisis. 4 in 10 (43%) callers to Scope’s energy helpline were already in energy debt this summer, on average to the tune of £1,351.
